Public Education

Public edcucation is a priority for the Central Mat-Su Fire Department. We educate our community in many different ways.

We do tours at our stations, visit each elementary in our fire service area each October,go to many different day cares and will even visit sites when requested for events like grand openings. It is our goal to provide fire safety education to anyone who requests it.

Our fire station tour starts with a tour of the ambulance, we let children know that EMS providers are there to help them. Each child has a chance to get into the ambulance to take a look at the compartments and questions are answered. Next we move to our rescue truck to open our heavy hydraulic compartment and show the "jaws of life" to the tour goers. From there we see the fire engine, tanker, ladder truck and brush truck. While looking at these trucks we explain what each truck is used for and some of the special duties they may be called to do. At the end we have a firefighter don their protective clothing, including their air pack, while talking through how they don their gear and what the gear does.
